Originally starting life as a start-up internet book marketplace, it has now materialised into an online conglomerate. With its services including an online marketplace, cloud computing, a music download/streaming service and producing consumer electronics such as the Kindle eBook, Fire TV box and Fire mobile phone, its transformation has truly been spectacular. Recently there has been negative media regarding some of the working conditions at the company: but this has not stopped the share price being propelled to an all-time high of $580 – currently with a market capitalisation of $250 billion and for the first time ever now, a larger market capitalisation than Walmart.
